April 8 - Romans 3:1-20

We are not righteous by any standard. We can't even argue our way out of justifying our sin. (that's what is outlined below).. Nope, our sinning doesn't make God look better... We're so busy thinking in human terms that we're not thinking what God is thinking.

Let's try to think the way God thinks...
The LAW isn't there so that we can prove ourselves to be good.. The law is there simply to prove that we just don't cut it - we are sinners. As v. 20 says - we become "conscious of our sin" and that is the first step towards repentance.

Vv. 1-8 is in the format of a debate. A question followed by Paul's response... these are some futile arguments..

vv. 1-2
Q: So does being a Jew or being circumcised have no value at all?
A: being a Jew or being circumcised does not protect one from God's judgment but has a different purpose/value - in that the Jews (as original recipients of God's promise) have a responsibility to be the keeper of God's laws. They have a special role indeed.

vv.3-4
Q:Does our sinfulness make God look better? Kind of like.. white looks more white next to a darker black.
A: Paul says - Nope. No way. God doesn't change or get better because we become more sinful. He is who He is and His glory shines no matter what.

vv. 7-8
Q: If my sinfulness makes God look better since He is so righteous - shouldn't He be grateful that my sinfulness is making Him look good.
A: Dude, seriously. Do we even need Paul to answer this one?

  1. heyyyyyy i just took a test on Ancient Rome. There's a chapter on Christianity :)
thinking in God's terms is harder because we arent God. wer just mere humans
(mere also means mother in french JUST SO YOU KNOW:)).
we should try to see what wer doing so we don't sin as much. i know we can never not sin because we werent made perfect so we can at least try and ask Him for forgiveness.
